What has your experience as a 1st generation or low income student been like?
As a first-generation student coming from a predominantly Hispanic community, I had to adjust to the underrepresentation that I was facing in the University setting. I first felt alone and definitely felt the pressure to succeed in order to change the course of my family history. I have learned to navigate the borderland space and cultural diffusion of UCSB and along the way created a sense of belonging since this is something that I didn't have to do in the past. I think it is especially important for University Programs to highlight and reflect diversity which is why I am so thankful for EOP.

What has your experience at UCSB been like?
I definitely cherish my experience at UCSB and am beyond thankful to have been able to have this opportunity to attend higher education. I love learning and am so appreciative of the friendships I've made and person I've become <3

Top tips for students:
My top tip for students would be to not be afraid to reach out and ask for help! (It's okay to not be okay and we aren't expected to have all the answers/everything figured out)
